Abstract:
Underneath the shiny graphics and 3D sound of the modern multiplayer
games lies a normal network client-server type application, that
doesn’t differ much from your basic SMB client or even a web browser.
As we know, other network client/server programs are targets for
different malicious attacks that sometime result in changing a healty
machine into a botnet zombie. Are the multiplayer games also a target
for such attacks? Maybe they are too well written and do not contain
vulnerabilities? Or maybe the attackers have missed that part of the
software universe? During the lecture I’ll try to answer these
questions.
The lecture will not focus on game cheats nor anti-piracy protections
(which do not work anyway).
